Police in Shamserganj, under the Jangipur police district, seized nearly two kilograms of heroin during an operation on National Highway 12 on Tuesday evening. The recovery was made near the Shamserganj Dak Bungalow after police intercepted two young men who were moving suspiciously in the area.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Sohel Rana and Jarjis Islam, both residents of the Vaishnavnagar police station area in Malda district. Initial investigations suggest that the duo was attempting to smuggle the heroin from North Bengal to Jharkhand using the Dak Bungalow as a transit point. Acting on specific intelligence, police had been conducting covert surveillance in the vicinity.
During the search, officers found the narcotics concealed on the two men. Police believe the arrested suspects are linked to a larger drug racket operating across districts. Further investigation is underway to trace the network and identify additional accomplices involved in the smuggling route
